PRESS RELEASE

PABLO—The Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes have completed a Draft Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS) for public review and comment. The Draft CEDS will be available on the Tribes’ Economic Development website beginning February 22 at www.cskteconomics.org, or people can request a copy from Janet Camel at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.  or Sam Wall at S&K Business Services at 883-4317 or This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. Comments are due by close of business, Wednesday, March 24, 2021.

The Draft CEDS includes information about the Flathead Reservation economy, Tribal corporations and other Tribal business activities, economic resources and infrastructure. It describes the Tribes’ economic development goals, objectives and action steps, as well as resiliency planning.

“We could not have completed the CEDS without the Tribal membership’s impressive response to our 2014 Job and Training Needs Survey,” said Janet Camel, CSKT Planning Director. “Tribal members identified their career goals, job skills, and education and training needs, as well as priorities for economic development on the Reservation. We used this information to guide us in the development of our 2015 CEDS which we have been updating over the past two years. In 2019, Economic Development Office (EDO) staff members met with Tribal Elders, the culture committees, and the general membership at several district meetings to gain additional guidance about economic and community development priorities.”

Work to update the CEDS continued in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic via virtual meetings with Tribal entrepreneurs and a coalition of partners. Partners include Tribal staff representatives from the EDO, Salish Kootenai College, the Department of Human Resource Development (DHRD), the Tribal Finance Office, S&K Business Services, Tribal Education, Personnel’s Indian Preference Office and Mission Valley Power. The Mission West and Arlee Community Development Corporations, the Montana Department of Commerce and Polson Job Service are additional project partners.

Comments should be submitted to either Camel or Wall via the e-mail addresses listed above, or mailed to the CSKT Economic Development Office in care of Janet Camel at P.O. Box 278, Pablo, MT 59855.
